BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN SIGNED 1967 FREEHOLD HIGH SCHOOL YEARBOOK

brucebruce2

Rare and extremely desirable Bruce Springsteen signed high school yearbook. The 1967 Freehold New Jersey Regional High School yearbook, titled The Log, features aspiring artist and graduating senior Bruce Springsteen in the era and context that inspired him and shaped much of his creative powers in the years to come. Springsteen has inscribed and signed the book in blue ink above his yearbook picture, “Anielia, Best of luck in the coming years and always remember Mr. Hussey’s English class. Have fun this summer, Bruce.” Both the inscription and signature are printed and grade “10.” Springsteen is pictured only once in the book and it appears obvious, by the brief educational summary printed below his name “”Freehold Boro…College Prep”), that his academic pursuits had already taken a back seat to his musical ambitions. At the time of his graduation, Springsteen was performing as the lead guitarist and singer for a local band call “The Castilles.” His career quickly blossomed and just seven years later, following a performance of Springsteen and the E Street Band in Cambridge, Massachusetts, music critic Jon Landau, wrote “I saw my rock and roll past flash before my eyes. I saw something else: I saw rock and roll’s future and its name is Bruce Springsteen.” (Landau would later become Springsteen’s manager and producer.) The 308-page (including eight-page insert) leather-bound book (8 x 10.75 inches features numerous inscriptions to “Aniela” throughout and displays light wear from normal handling. Overall in Excellent
Condition!

ORIGINAL 1998 JOHNNY CASH SIGNED BILLBOARD MAGAZINE AD AUTOGRAPH TO JIM SILVERS

Flippin the Bird
Johnny Cash signed flippin the bird

Rare Infamous Ad of Johnny Cash “Flipping the Bird” featured in
Billboard magazine March 12, 1998.
Signed and inscribed, “To Jim Silvers My Friend Johnny Cash” adding
“Don’t take it personally

Accompanied with an 11 x 14 photograph of Johnny & June taken by Silvers during a rehearsal of the Johnny Cash Show in early 1970’s at Ryman in Nashville
and
LP “Cash On Delivery”.

Letter of Authenticity
Letter of provenance by Jim Silver
(transcript below)

Jim Silvers letter reads;  “The time the ad came out I was in the process of producing an album of songs Johnny had made popular, The reason for the album was to benefit research in Shy-Drager Syndrome.

Johnny’s manager lives in Thousand Oaks near where I used to live and we would talk occasionally and I had given him that picture of Johnny & June in the love seat (a copy of which is in the Country Music Hall of Fame).

Anyway, the ad came out and I asked Lou to see that Johnny signed it and sent it to him when he was in Nashville. Johnny was always very cool, except the time around when I was introduced to him by Norman Blake (his guitar, dobro and utility band member) his producers from New York were the typical putzes, maybe with good reason as there had been threats against John Carter Cash’s life; he was an infant at the time.

My album fell short of my hopes as I couldn’t get one of the main acts, Ledward Kaapana because of logistics, and I pissed off Balfa Toujours and they withdrew, otherwise it would have surpassed my hopes and expectations. Two cuts stand out; Jackson by the punk band ADZ was vilified by Cash’s manager, Lou Robin, screaming into my answering machine for several messages, though I am sure Johnny got a kick out of it as it’s a wonderful cut, and The Ballad Of Ira Hayes (the Pima indian who raised the flag on Iwo Jima and died drunk in a ditch on his reservation). We got the infamous Russell Means, a big wheel in AIM (the American Indian Movement and on trial for murder and a number of violent events) to do the song. The Washington Post said it was to depressing to listen to, the assholes, but one of my favorite cuts, if not the favorite on the album”

Carroll Naish, Bobby Barber, (noted character actors), Lou Costello, Bud Abbott, Fibber McGee and Molly and A.C. Lyles,(producer of many western films).

William (Bud) Abbott and Lou Costello (born Louis Francis Cristillo) performed together as Abbott and Costello, an American comedy duo whose work in radio, film and television made them the most popular comedy team during the 1940s and 50s. Thanks to the endurance of their most popular and influential routine, “Who’s on First?”—whose rapid-fire word play and comprehension confusion set the preponderant framework for most of their best-known routines—the team is, as a result, featured in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. (Contrary to popular belief, however, the duo was not inducted into the Hall.)

Norma Talmadge Autograph

EXTREMELY RARE AUTOGRAPHED PHOTO OF SILENT FILM ERA ACTRESS NORMA TALMADGE
Vintage 7 x 9 Melbourne Spurr portrait inscribed in black fountain pen
“Mr. O.K.  Mason with Sincere Best Wishes Norma Talmadge”

Norma Talmadge (May 26, 1893 – December 24, 1957) was an American actress and film producer of the silent era. A major box office draw for more than a decade, her career reached a peak in the early 1920s, when she ranked among the most popular idols of the American screen.

Her most famous film was Smilin’ Through (1922),but she also scored artistic triumphs teamed with director Frank Borzage in Secrets (1924) and The Lady (1925). Her younger sisters Constance Talmadge and Natalie Talmadge were also movie stars. Talmadge married millionaire and film producer Joseph Schenck and they successfully created their own production company. After reaching fame in the film studios on the East Coast, she moved to Hollywood in 1922.

A specialist in melodrama, Talmadge was one of the most elegant and glamorous film stars of the roaring twenties. By the end of the silent film period her popularity with audiences had waned. After her two talkies proved disappointing at the box office, she retired a very wealthy woman. Of all the silent stars whose reputation collapsed with the coming of sound, Norma Talmadge was the most important. She is little remembered, since her films are seldom revived today, yet in her day she was hugely popular and the epitome of stardom.

Colleen Moore (August 19, 1900 – January 25, 1988) was an American film actress, and one of the most fashionable stars of the silent film era. TALKIES With the advent of talking pictures in 1929, Moore took a hiatus from acting. During this interim, Moore was briefly married to a prominent New York-based stockbroker , Albert Parker Scott, one of her four husbands. She and Scott lived at that time in a lavish home in Bel Air, where they hosted parties for and were supporters of the U.S. Olympic team, especially the yachting team, during the 1932 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles. In 1933, Moore, by then divorced, returned to work in Hollywood. She appeared in three films, none of which were successful, and Moore retired. She later married the widower Homer Hargrave and raised his children (she never had children of her own) from a previous marriage, with whom she maintained a life-long close relationship. Throughout her life she also maintained close friendships with other colleagues from the silent film era, such as King Vidor and Mary Pickford.
