Plot

Roy McAvoy (Kevin Costner) is a talented golf pro, who owns his own driving range. That sounds impressive, but the reality is quite different. That’s all there is for Roy, until he is wakened from his deathlike reverie by a visit from a newcomer in town, psychologist Molly Griswold (Renee Russo). Teaching her how to swing a club reminds him of feelings he had nearly forgotten. Discovering that she is the girlfriend of his old golfing rival, David Simms (Don Johnson), goads him yet further, and he returns to the PGA golf tour to compete in the U.S. Open. Plot

Mel Gibson, long-time heartthrob of the silver screen, came into his own as a director with Braveheart, an account of the life and times of medieval Scottish patriot William Wallace and, to a lesser degree, Robert the Bruce’s struggle to unify his nation against its English oppressors. The story begins with young Wallace, whose father and brother have been killed fighting the English, being taken into the custody of his uncle, a nationalist and pre-Renaissance renaissance man. He returns twenty years later, a man educated both in the classics and in the art of war. There he finds his childhood sweetheart Murron (Catherine McCormack), and the two quickly fall in love. There are murmurs of revolt against the English throughout the village, but Wallace remains aloof, wishing simply to tend to his crops and live in peace. However, when his love is killed by English soldiers the day after their secret marriage (held secretly so as to prevent the local English lord from exercising the repulsive right of prima noctae, the privilege of sleeping with the bride on the first night of the marriage), he springs into action and single-handedly slays an entire platoon of foot soldiers. The other villagers join him in destroying the English garrison, and thus begin the revolt against the English in what will eventually become full-fledged war. Wallace eventually leads his fellow Scots in a series of bloody battles that prove a serious threat to English domination and, along the way, has a hushed affair with the Princess of Wales (the breathtaking Sophie Marceau) before his imminent demise. James (Jimmy) Stewart started in the movies in the 1930s, making his mark in studio-driven light comedies as a wide-eyed innocent. He earned an Oscar nomination for his defining role in Mr. Smith Goes To Washington, (1939) and the next year he won an Oscar for The Philadelphia Story (co-starring Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn). Stewart’s movie career (he also performed frequently on radio) was interrupted by World War II, in which he served as a combat pilot. He returned from the war with a distinguished record, and soon starred in It’s A Wonderful Life, (1946) again earning an Oscar nomination. THE MEMPHIS MAFIA”

The Memphis Mafia is the nickname given to the group of men who were with Elvis Presley everyday from 1956 until the day he died on August 16, 1977.

There were eight original members; although at times, they numbered between four and thirteen. The core group of original guys (Sonny West, Red West, Billy Smith, Marty Lacker, and Lamar Fike) was considered to be the closest to Elvis and became his confidants throughout the years.

The name “The Memphis Mafia” was bestowed on the group in an unusual way. In the early 1960’s, Elvis and the guys frequently wore black mohair suits. One afternoon in Las Vegas on a two-week pleasure trip, Elvis and the guys went to meet someone at the Riviera Hotel.

Elvis and the guys usually stayed at The Sahara Hotel. Their normal routine for Las Vegas was to stay up all night and sleep during the day. Elvis and the guys normally started their day about 5 p.m. However, on that day, the appointment at the Riviera Hotel was at 1 p.m. Four hours earlier than they normally got up.

There was a crowd of people in front of the Riviera Hotel when the two big black limousines pulled up. Elvis and about ten guys, all wearing black mohair suits and sunglasses, got out of the limousines. Because they normally didn’t get much in the sun during the day, their skins were pale white. It was a scary sight to behold, and someone in the crowd yelled: “Who are they, The Mafia?”

It just so happened that there was a reporter from a Las Vegas newspaper there. So, the next day, a story ran about what she saw. She dubbed them “The Memphis Mafia.” Elvis loved his guys being called that, and the name stuck.

The guys became known throughout the world as “The Memphis Mafia.” Like the real mafia, there was always a code of silence within the group while Elvis was alive. Throughout all the years of his life, they protected Elvis’ name and image.

Now is the first time that this many of the original members of The Memphis Mafia have gotten together to relate to you, the public, what those many years with Elvis Presley were really like. Today, The Memphis Mafia is comprised of the following men:
